Teachers are the backbone of our school system, yet our educators are leaving the profession at alarming rates. I intend to prioritize retaining and recruiting quality teachers through efforts such as protecting contracted time, ensuring competitive salaries, and increasing the substitute teacher pool.
Student mental health is in dire need of attention. Results from the 2021 Youth Risk Behavior Survey show that our students are experiencing increased feelings of sadness and difficulty with concentration. If elected, I would aim to increase student access to services that address these needs.
Parental involvement is key to student achievement. Studies show that school-home partnerships thrive when parents and caregivers have varying ways to engage with the school community. I hope to contribute to a culture that is welcoming and responsive to all parents and caregivers.
